Sean Hall and Kerri Stewart of Jacksonville are proud to serve as Honorary Chairs for this year’s JDRF Party with a Purpose. Kerri currently serves as the Vice President of Business Analytics & Strategic Initiatives at Miller Electric Company, one of the largest in the industry that started in Jacksonville back in 1928. Sean is a part of the JDRF Jacksonville Community Board of Directors and works with police, fire, and service vehicles as the Owner & Operator of Southern Tech Strategies (STS) to ensure their fleet vehicles are safe. Both University of North Florida graduates and long-time Jacksonville residents, Sean and Kerri are dedicated to helping our community in any way they can.
Their involvement with JDRF comes from a personal connection: at the age of 34, Sean began feeling sick while preparing to deploy with his National Guard unit. Originally, his primary care physician believed Sean had type two diabetes because he wasn’t a candidate for type one diabetes (T1D). After 7 months of treatment, Sean felt worse and worse; a friend of his who has T1D suggested Sean to see an endocrinologist and, at 35 years old, Sean was diagnosed with T1D. He hopes to bring a face of T1D that we don’t normally see: a person in good health, great shape, with no family history of T1D, being diagnosed at an older age than many.
Since Sean's onset was later in life, Sean and Kerri both learn more about the disease every day. After being unaware of the symptoms that come from high blood sugar led to a traumatic incident with diabetic ketoacidosis, they both decided to get involved with JDRF to help educate the community and bring awareness to the disease that affects more than 1.6 million people across the U.S.
Sean would like to thank his wife, Kerri, and his daughter, Emily, for supporting him throughout his T1D journey and helping him keep his health on track. Through serving as honorary chairs, Sean and Kerri hope to bring awareness to T1D and its impact on the lives of the people and families living with this disease. Although Sean and Kerri don’t usually take center stage, they realized that they can help make the diabetic world a little bit better through their support of JDRF and their hope is to make the needle move just a little touch - because any positive progress is a good thing for the T1D community. Seeing the difference JDRF makes for those living with T1D makes their hearts happy, which they hope to share with you as we raise money to fund critical research to advance scientific breakthroughs and ultimately a cure for T1D at this year’s Party with a Purpose.
JDRF is the leading international nonprofit fighting to cure type 1 diabetes (T1D) while also helping those with T1D live healthy lives today. Supported by hundreds of thousands of donors, JDRF raises, invests and drives more funds to T1D research than any organization in the world. As a result, JDRF has played a key role in major T1D advances – drug, device, cell research – that have improved lives and brought us closer to our ultimate goal of a cure. JDRF is mission-driven and serves as an aggressive advocate and educational support for the T1D community. JDRF has staff and volunteers across the United States, has five international affiliates, funds research in more than 20 countries and supports insulin-aid efforts in the U.S. and around the world.
